There is a lot of talk about going green. And why not? It’s about time we woke up to the reality of the damage that human activity has caused the environment. Global temperatures are rising at an alarming level and if this continues, the earth might survive but we might not!
To live more sustainably (i.e in harmony with the environment), we only need to start from a few smart environmental friendly choices in our daily life, like using a recyclable water bottle in your daily life, to learning how to compost so that less waste is generated.
Here are some simple tricks and tips:
Save Energy
Count the bulbs you have in your home. Change them to LED light bulbs that last longer than conventional bulbs and far more efficient. Switch off all lights, fans, ACs, geyser, etc. when not in use. Use natural light during the day.
Save Water
Few ways to conserve water are – take short showers (or go use buckets!), fix leaking pipes, keep the running tap close while you brush your teeth or shave, use discarded water from your water purifier to clean around the house, use water-saving appliances, collect rainwater to water your plants.
Recycle Reuse Reduce
Recycling conserves natural resources, reduces pollution and saves energy. Put all the newspapers, amazon delivery boxes, used plastic bottles, medicine wrappers (yes! they are recyclable), etc. aside for recycling with your local raddiwala bhaiya.
Use reusable cloth napkins, cloth diapers, etc. and extend the life of your present wardrobe clothes by getting them tailored, electronic and mechanical items, etc. by getting them repaired. Be Mindful- Remember, less is more.

Compost at Home
Start a compost bin with kitchen scraps, old newspaper, and other organic materials. Use this fertile compost in your garden instead of commercial fertilizer.
Stop Using Single-Use Plastic
There are over 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic in the world, and the vast majority do not enter the recycling process. Invest in a water bottle that is not only reusable but also the right size, so you can take it with you whenever you travel and avoid buying single use plastic water bottles. Invest in a metal or bamboo straw that is reusable and keep it in your bag at all times. Use recyclable gift wrapper, Carry a cloth bag in your bag, ditch disposable cutlery and invest in the wooden ones.
Buy Local Produce
Reduce your carbon footprint by buying seasonal fruits and vegetables from local farms. Even if you shop at a big grocery store, produce should be labelled with its place of origin. Buying locally reduces emissions from fuel used to transport food to you and supports local farmers.
Shifting to a more Plant based Diet
It is now well documented the kind of negative impact animal husbandry has on the planet- using up so many resources and being one of the top polluting industries. So by having more plant based items and meals you can easily, everyday make a positive impact on the planet!
We at RAS ensure all our products are vegan and not tested on animals.
